The short version

Mr. Lister is built to be private by design. The app does not require an account, does not track you, contains no advertising, and includes no third-party analytics or advertising software. As the developer, I do not collect, receive, or store your personal data. The sections below explain, honestly and in detail, what happens with the small amount of data that the app and this website necessarily involve.

What the app stores on your device

Everything you create in Mr. Lister (your lists, entries, ratings, and tags) is stored locally on your device. This data lives on your device (and, if you enable iCloud, in your private iCloud, described below). It is not sent to the developer, and there is no server operated by the developer that receives it.

Your in-app settings (such as your chosen theme or title font) are also stored locally on your device.

iCloud sync (optional)

If you are signed in to iCloud on your device, Mr. Lister can synchronise your lists across your own Apple devices using Apple iCloud (CloudKit). When this happens, your data is stored in your own private iCloud database, which is controlled by you and Apple.

The developer has no access whatsoever to this data. Sync only occurs while you are signed in to iCloud; if you are not using iCloud, all data stays purely on your device. Your use of iCloud is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

In-app purchases (tips)

Mr. Lister offers optional "tips": small, voluntary payments as a way to support the app. These purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. The developer does not receive your payment details, credit card information, or billing data. Apple provides the developer only with anonymised, aggregated sales reports, which do not identify individual users. Your purchases are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Crash reports

Mr. Lister contains no crash-reporting software of its own. However, Apple may automatically send the developer anonymised, non-personal crash reports, but only if you have enabled sharing of analytics and diagnostics in your device's iOS settings. This is entirely under your control and can be turned off at any time in Settings on your device. These reports do not identify you and are used only to find and fix technical problems.

This website

This website (mr-lister.com) is a simple, static site. It uses no cookies, no analytics, and no tracking.

Like virtually all websites, the hosting provider automatically keeps technical server logs when a page is requested. These logs may include the visitor's IP address, the date and time of the request, and technical details such as browser type. This information is processed by the hosting provider to operate and secure the website, and is not used by the developer to identify or profile visitors.

Note to self (remove before publishing): Verify with Infomaniak what their web hosting actually logs and for how long, then adjust this paragraph to match. If you name the host here, add: "This site is hosted by Infomaniak Network SA, Switzerland." Confirm the retention period.

Data transfers abroad

Because Mr. Lister relies on Apple's services (iCloud and the App Store), some processing by Apple may take place outside Switzerland and the European Union, including in the United States. These transfers are carried out by Apple under its own safeguards and privacy commitments. See Apple's Privacy Policy for details.

Your rights

Under Swiss data protection law (revDSG) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have rights over your personal data, including the rights to access, correct, and delete it, and to object to or restrict its processing.

Because of how Mr. Lister is built, you already control your own data directly:

Data in the app: you can view, edit, and delete your lists and entries at any time within the app. Deleting the app removes the local data from your device.
Data in iCloud: you can manage or delete this in your device's iCloud settings.
Data held by Apple (purchases, diagnostics): please contact Apple, as the developer has no access to it.
Website server logs: if you wish to exercise any right regarding the website, contact the developer at the email above.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Switzerland, this is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC / EDÖB). In the EU, this is your national data protection authority.

Children

Mr. Lister is a general-audience productivity app and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated if the app or its data practices change. Any updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
